In this workshop, we dive into the language, colour and sound of political disappointment and anger.
By reading queer, feminist and Black manifestos, we discuss how we can feel and express ourselves without censorship, and how we can use our anger (and rage) to imagine new ways of living and being in the world. We give shape to our anger by writing our own manifestos.
The reading and writing session will be followed by a listening session, featuring a collectively compiled playlist. As sound moves our bodies, we will translate our feelings into images through cyanotype: a printing technique that combines sunlight and indigo.
Creating an imprint of something that does not want to be forgotten, made visible in light.
Everyone is welcome to join! Please register via lenn@plaatsmaken.nl so we can take that into account when preparing for the workshop. English and Dutch will be the main languages spoken during the workshop.
Periphery Center is an emerging collective for artistic practice and shared study. Here, we center the margin as the main site for the production of a counter hegemonic discourse that is not just found in words but in habits of being and in the way one lives.* Here, we meet to inspire one another and co-create the reality we dream of through bookmaking, (graphic) design, publishing, curating, art and writing. Periphery Center is based in Rotterdam and consists of Leana Boven, Pelumi Adejumo, Yusser Al Obaidi, Jeanine van Berkel en Yessica Deira.
